A New Human Model

This week, I would like to present  my readers with a new concept of our whole human experience, or should I say a more “holistic” way of being and living.

I am reading a fascinating book: The Heart Revolution – Breakthrough for a New World by Annie Marquier, in which she offers a metaphor to help us better understand the interior dynamic of our humanity, she compares the human being with an ensemble made of a chariot, a horse, a driver (that leads the horse), and a master that sits inside the chariot. Symbolically, the chariot represents our physical body, the horse represents our emotions, the driver represents our mind and the master represents our true essence.

The physical, mental and emotional elements form what we often call our personality or our “ego.” And the Master represents our true and transcendental essence. So lets look at each of these elements in more detail:

The Physical Body – The Chariot

Following this comparison, the state of our physical body: the chariot, depends on the maintenance given by an intelligent driver, but also depends on the way it is led by the horse. Since the state of our physical body is easily seen and measured, it can give us a clear indication of the degree of command the driver has over the entire vehicle.

The Emotions – The Horse

Interestingly enough, in the term emotion, we have the word “motion”. Our emotions determine our driving power, our strength, our capacity to act. Therefore, our emotions are a large reservoir of energy. It is the horse that has the energy to pull the entire vehicle, it is an essential element for the journey. The question is: how is this energy reservoir being used?

The Mind – The Driver

The driver: the mind, is the one that holds the thinking process and his functions are extremely important as he commands the whole vehicle. For instance, the horse responds to the thinking process of the driver and not to external circumstances, as we had originally believed. Also, the driver is the connection between the master and the ego. Ideally, the functions of the driver should be:

  1. Delivering the external information to the Master
  2. Listening to the instructions of the Master
  3. Successfully leading the horse in the right direction, according to the master’s instructions
  4. Taking intelligent care of the chariot

The Essence – The Master

The names given to this essence are as diverse as the different cultures and languages that exist, it can be called: soul, spirit, higher self, etc. Even thought the materialistic philosophy still, to this day, denies the existence of this essence, long standing traditions, the direct experience of more and more people, as well as recent scientific discoveries, are revealing its undeniable presence. The Master is the undeniable guide and the wisdom of the whole ensemble.

What is the current functioning?

The current functioning of our experience, has often denied or neglected the existence of the master and therefore has unknowingly missed its guidance, in other words: the driver has had to lead the chariot by himself, he has failed to listen to the subtle but vital instructions of the master. Up to recently, the driver had not developed a relationship with the master, in many cases he was not even aware the master was there. So the functioning of the vehicle has been very limited.

The driver does not have and will never have all the knowledge to lead the horse and the chariot in the best possible way, he needs the Master’s wisdom to do a good job. All the challenges, problems and difficulties that surround us at a personal and planetary level come directly from this lack of communication and our limited functioning as a result.

However, for the first time in our history, at least the history we can trace back to, we are closer to attaining the ideal human model, where The Master can recover its influence and authority. If we are able to truly integrate the master into our daily life, we will be approaching a great revolution of the human consciousness which in turn will allow us to create a new world for each one of us and for the humanity as a whole.

If you want to read more and discover how this fascinating human model can work for you, I encourage you to read the book, it is a revelation. But for now, I give you this article as food for thought!

Have a good week!

Rethinking History and Finding Where We Are

I recently came across a fascinating documentary about the evolution of human consciousness and how the heavens may be an active participant in it. As human beings we are not independent of the invisible forces in the cosmos that constantly surround us.

Most of life’s major cycles are driven by celestial motion. The spinning Earth causes night and day, activity and rest, and directly or indirectly regulates the daily drama of virtually every living creature. The second, longer motion of the Earth orbiting around the Sun causes a commensurately longer cycle and produces the seasons of the year. Plants spring forth, bloom, reach maturity and decay; fish spawn, bird migrate, animals hibernate; weather patterns and activities change, matching the effects of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. The motion of the Moon also produces cyclical effects, seen in the tides as well as in the behavior of certain plants and animals. It is worth reflecting on the fact that all these cycles are the result of celestial mechanics, although contemporary man rarely associates the cycles with their respective cosmic cause: heavenly bodies in motion.” Excerpt from Lost Star of Myth and Time by Walter Cruttenden

According to Hindu Philosophy: life in the universe is created and destroyed once every few billion years, and each life cycle has 4 ages called “yugas” that mark different stages which the earth and the consciousness of mankind goes through as a whole, and it is believed that this cycle is caused by the solar system’s motion around another star.

yugas

Currently some astronomers and researchers are suggesting that our Sun (which is the center of our solar system) might be circling together with Sirius (also known as the Dog star). What is more interesting is that if this theory is true, it would seem that these two stars have turned a corner and are now moving towards one another. So, it could be that the motion between the Sun and Sirius may influence the stages in which humans are evolving, especially at a cosmic, spiritual, evolutionary level.

If we look at other great civilizations that preceded our times: the Mayas for instance, their calendar that supposedly “ended” in 2012, was in reality marking and ending and a new beginning. In the words of John Major Jenkins what ancient Mayans signified was the beginning of “a new world age cycle which is similar to the birth of a new cosmosmarked by a new galactic alignment.

The Ancient Egyptians believed that Sirius had a tremendous effect upon life on our planet and they were aware of the orbital dynamics of the Sirian system before 3200 BC (modern astronomy did not discover these facts until over five thousand years later, in 1862!.)

So, if the Hindu belief is right, according to the current alignment between our Sun and Sirius, The world is now in the ascending half of the cycle, in the second age or Dwapara Yuga, which began in 1900 A.D. This is really good news, as it means we are moving towards the “Golden Age” of humanity (Satya Yuga) and leaving behind the “Dark Age” (Kali Yuga.)

The rise and fall of human kind makes sense, when we think of earlier civilizations that seemed to have been far more advanced than we are at many levels. Maybe the history of the earth and of human kind is not at all linear but rather cyclical! I find all this quite fascinating, I hope you do to!

A Grander Scheme, A Larger System

A good friend of mine recently sent me a blog entry from NPR that came out a couple weeks ago and I was totally inspired by it. It made me think about our role in this earth, our connection to the ecosystem and, the mysteries of the universe and of our own existence.

breathing-earth

So many mysteries about life remain undiscovered and unexplained still; and it is clear that our planet, as any living entity, keeps changing and so do we. So, it is good to always keep an open mind, be curious and willing to accept new concepts, new paradigms, new possibilities, new realities!

As the famous phrase from Socrates states: “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing,” this of course does not mean we know nothing, but rather we can’t pretend to have total certainty about anything, and this is true at many levels!

When a new discovery threatens to change the Status Quo, or challenges the existing (already accepted) standards, there is always resistance, skepticism and disbelief. Human beings don’t like change, it makes them loose the sense of safety created by certainty and knowledge. Revolutionary discoveries, are often rejected, mocked and even ignored, until they are finally accepted because evidence becomes undeniable, and as time goes by they become the new standard, until… a new discovery comes along. There are many examples of this in our history, from Plato and his theory of a circular earth, to Copernicus who defended that the sun was at the center of the universe, to Darwin and his theory of evolution.

Anyway, the NPR article talks about a pulsing earth, and if you look at the stunning animated picture (a result of stitching a year worth of images of weather patterns), you really see a “breathing” earth, with a heart-like pulsating rhythm. It is really cool, here is the link: This Pulsing Earth

What if, we were indeed part of something much bigger…? what if each one of us was a cell in a larger body…?

When I was a child I used to imagine that all the tiny microorganisms that live inside of our bodies had “a life”. I imagined them as teeny-tiny beings playing, having friends, going to work, etc. and totally oblivious that they were living in my body, that they were connected and had a role in the whole functioning of my system. It was a fun game, but… what if there is some truth to that.

We can say one thing for sure, if we look at the ecosystem, we can’t deny that there is a strong connection between all elements of the planet.

“An ecosystem is a community of living organisms (plants, animals and microbes) in conjunction with the nonliving components of their environment (things like air, water and mineral soil), interacting as a system“- Wikipedia

So, we are all part of the same “system.” A system that is alive and encompasses not only our planet but the sun, the universe and more!

Another interesting theory of unity and connection is that of the holographic universe, which defends that we are all part of a whole and we each contain all the information of that whole, just like a holographic picture: If you tear a hologram in half, you can still see the whole image in each piece. The same is true with smaller and smaller pieces.

In the Vedic tradition of India, it is held that “as is the smallest, so is the greatest. As is the microcosm, so is the macrocosm.” “As above so below.”

The New York Times had an article way back in 2006, showing the picture of a mouse’s brain (microcosm) and the picture of the universe (macrocosm) and they look incredibly alike… Click here to see them.

The microcosm and macrocosm similarities were also acknowledged by the greeks, as “An ancient Greek Neo-Platonic schema of seeing the same patterns reproduced in all levels of the cosmos, from the largest scale (macrocosm or universe-level) all the way down to the smallest scale (microcosm or sub-sub-atomic or even metaphysical-level). In the system the midpoint is Man, who summarizes the cosmos.” – Source: Wikipedia

Anyway, all this is pretty fascinating to me, and I just wanted to share with you the idea that maybe… just maybe, we are part of a much larger scheme. There is no coincidence we are here, we are alive, we have the experiences we have, there is a reason for everything and we each have a unique purpose in this life, as part of a larger scheme.

I do believe each one of us contains and has access to the information of our true and infinite essence, we just have to open up to it. Some food for thought…

Have a good week!

Change the Dream

A few days ago I came across a very interesting story that I would like to reflect on today.

The story I read was about the Ashuar, an indigenous group from the rainforest of my home country Ecuador. This group reached out to environmentalist groups and global activists in order to transmit their message to our civilized world (if we can call it that…)

shuardance

These people believe that our civilized world has created a reality based on a collective dream, a dream that has become a nightmare and is affecting the entire planet, it may even drive our human race to its collapse. And, according to the Ashuar: “The world is as you dream it.”

In their view, we live in “the dream of more”: more factories, more companies, more houses, more cars, more of everything, and according to them “we can’t really change our everyday actions because at their root, will always be the dream we have of our future and we will always act consistent with that dream. However, the dream itself can be changed in the space of one generation and the time to do it is now” (source: The Soul of Money – Lynne Twist)

The way I interpret the meaning of “dream” in the context of the Ashuar’s message, is the equivalent to our beliefs, the ways we see the world and the assumptions we make as a society. This “dream” is not necessarily true, but it drives our lives and the way we act on others and on our planet. To me the “dream of more” represents materialism, the culture of money and overall the capitalist system that now rules most of the world.

Also, in this message I find an interesting parallel to the law of attraction that states that what you focus on and give your attention to (whether is good or bad for you) will manifest in your life. Aside form our individual focus and attention, we also have a collective focus (or dream), a collective set of beliefs that brings about the world we live in. Our “dream” therefore is our deep seated beliefs about life, that have been around for many generations and have become the norm, most people don’t even question them at all, it is what it is and it rules our lives and our social systems.

But what IF we started to question it? what if we tried to detach ourselves from this collective dream?

Each and every one of us is part of this dream and we have an individual responsibility to change it if we want to survive as a race and live a more fulfilling life. As the Ashuar say, we can’t truly change our actions unless we start by changing the dream and we can, one individual at a time.

Our own journey into the realization of this dream is very important because it will contribute to a greater change, it will bring a positive shift on our societies.

To me this message rings true and it gives me hope, hope that there are enough people in this world that are raising to a higher level of awareness and they can help others move into it, hope that this message will spread so that there will be more and more people questioning the current dream we live in.

The opportunity is here!

This week I would like to reflect on a phrase from the Dalai Lama that really resonates with what I believe in, here it is:

All the world’s major religions, with their emphasis on love, compassion, patience, tolerance, and forgiveness can and do promote inner values. But the reality of the world today is that grounding ethics in religion is no longer adequate.
This is why I am increasingly convinced that the time has come to find a way of thinking about spirituality and ethics beyond religion altogether.

candles

Many currents of thought say that the world is evolving towards a higher plane of consciousness and this shift gives us a great opportunity to find spirituality beyond religion.

Although all religions deserve respect, not a single one of them can pretend to own the whole truth of our existence.

Brought up as a Catholic, I recognize many great teachings of my religion and really value it because it has helped shape who I am, however, as I wrote in a previous post: Faith, Religion and Spirituality, our experience of God is very personal and can’t be fully dictated by a single religion.

Religion can help us enter the realm of spirituality, but in many cases it can also hinder our chances to find God, for we can become stuck with the little stuff, the things that are not important and that distract us from the essence, the truth. We should not forget that religions are human entities and therefore flawed, as history can attest to.

Plus, if we take all the major religions in the world, we can find a lot of similarities in their teachings and those similarities are usually what is really important, because that is what “unites” us all as a human family. As the Dalai Lama says: love, compassion, patience, tolerance, and forgiveness are values that we should retain. But all the other things that seem to define specific religions and distinguish them from one another are the things that give us a sense of separation and antagonism, which goes against our true essence.

In this new current of belief, for instance, spirituality and science can go hand by hand, paving the road for a new faith, also, the concept of oneness emphasizes the idea of unity, respect, love, cooperation, etc.

The world is changing at a really fast speed, and we can’t remain “stuck” we need to grow and realize that there is an incredible momentum towards a higher level of awareness, which does not dismiss all the values of our church or religion but it gives us permission to look beyond it to find an even greater connection to God.

The light that shines in everyone of us is the same and only, and if we can connect to that light we will see the entire world differently because we will realize that we are all deeply connected indeed. But in order to see this light, we need first to turn off the distractions: all the material noise of our day to day crazy race.

I find all this very exciting because it is my passion to follow this topics, of course, however, I believe that anyone, no matter what their interests are and no matter where they are spiritually speaking, can be open to this incredible opportunity to grow beyond our material existence and into a much deeper level of self.

Have a great week!
